About us
Starting life in central Leeds in 2010 by our very own lovely leader “Bird”, Bird’s Yard is today a collection of over 70 of the best independent businesses and designers sourced locally and globally. Trading on Chapel Walk in Sheffield since December 2012, we are continuing to grow and won The Sheffield Star’s Championing
Independents award in November 2018.

How it works
Space within the shop is rented and a commission paid to contribute to the running costs of the shop. We find this works better for makers as the more you sell the more of the profit goes to you. We only ask for a 3 month commitment when you first join us and then monthly notice. There’s also an option to work in the shop for a reduced commission. This again helps to keep costs down in a city centre shop and is a
great way for you to meet customers and get feedback on your work. Many designers who sell with us have got great advice and new product ideas from our customers! Hours are flexible with you being able to choose the days you work.

For higher volume sales or larger areas in the shop to rent we area always willing to offer alternatives as is suitable. Please message us for more information. Please note this is only for high volume sellers.

Options and costs can be found below. Please note not all options are always available. If an option that suits both you and the shop is not available currently, we’re happy to keep you on file and contact you when your preferred option is available.

What can be sold?
Any items that are handmade or designed by you. We have a range of items on sale including homewares, stationery, leather goods, prints, jewellery, clothes, food, accessories and more. We’re open to ideas too!

It is up to each individual seller to make sure that their items meet any necessary legal regulations where applicable.

We have a website to sell our goods to customers further afield too. There is also be an opportunity to sell through this format. You will need to provide separate stock for the website that we can keep at the shop. We will load products onto the site and process orders, you just need to provide the stock.


Spaces in the shop…(please indicate on your application form which you’d prefer)

Option 1. Column
• Width – 40cm
• Comes with 5 shelves of between approx. 40-50cm high.
• The shelves can be adjusted to have more or less.
• A rail can be added across the top to hang clothes in the space
• A combination of rail and shelves is also possible

£75 per calendar month,30% commission on sales, no hours working in shop
£60 pcm, 20% commission, 16 hours per month working in the shop


Option 2. One shelf within a column
• Size – 40 x45cm approx.
• A rail can be fixed across the shelf for hanging items

£30 per calendar month, 30% commission on sales, no hours working in the shop
£25 pcm, 20% commission, 8 hours per month working in the shop


Option 3. Jewellery Crate
• Size – 50x40x30cm
• Can have a peg board on the back wall to hang items
• Can have a Perspex door with a lock fitted

£35 per calendar month,30% commission on sales, no hours working in the shop
£30 pcm, 20% commission, 8 hours per month working in the shop


Option 4. Half a column
• 2 shelves within a column (plus very top or bottom shelf of the column)
• Column width 40cm
• Shelf height approx. 40-50cm, can be adjusted

£45 per calendar month,30% commission on sales, no hours working in the shop
£40 pcm, 20% commission, 12 hours per month working in the shop


Option 5. Prints basket
• Metal basket approx 15 x 24cm
• holds approx. 25 A4 prints

£20 per calendar month,30% commission on sales, no hours working in the shop
£15pcm, 20% commission, 4 hours per month working in the shop





Bird’s Yard Application – please note we do get a lot of applications and at busy times it might take a while to respond to applications. If you’ve not hear within 4 weeks please do email again or message us on social media just in case your original application went missing.

Many thanks. We will get back to you asap. Should a decision at this stage be no, we will give a reason. This is most likely to be that we already have a similar designer/we have too much at this time of a certain item eg cards/jewellery, or that we do not have sufficient space at this time.
